Fur Clothing Storage

Your fur is probably the most valuable piece of clothing you own. It demands a higher level of maintenance. Fur clothing storage is as important as how you treat your fur while you're wearing it. In fact, most age-related damage occurs not when the fur is being worn, but when it is stored. Here are some quick tips to help you increase the longevity of your fur coat.

First, make sure that you have a cool and dry place to keep your coat. Your coat, underneath all that lush fur, is leather. The hairs that are bonded to the leather are only as strong as the leather is healthy. Keeping your leather soft will, in turn, keep the fur itself rooted firmly to the coat. Over many years, this will make a considerable difference.

Storing Your Fur Properly
Consider the natural habitat of your fur's origin. Thick coats grow on animals that live in cold climates; furs are made to be kept in similar conditions. When the weather gets hot and humid, fur coats are especially susceptible to increased aging. The leather dries out prematurely, and that can spell disaster. Moving your coat to a cool place in the summertime doesn't necessarily protect it from the elements, because humidity is the silent culprit.

While your house doesn't have precise humidity control, ours does. Our clients send us their furs for the spring and summer months, and we send them back for the winter. In this way, the only time you'll be storing your fur coat at home is when it's safe to do so.
